Rutile is a titanium mineral that grows as thin needles, and when quartz forms around them they stay locked in place, so every piece has its own pattern of lines. The close up photo shows the inclusions in detail, and the front and back views show the overall shape. A freeform has no set shape, which lets the cutter follow the crystal, and at about three inches long it sits comfortably in a palm, in a pocket or on a desk tray.
