If you need a good amount of blue for a project, a pound of rough apatite goes a long way. Each bag holds about 16 to 20 natural stones in natural shades of blue.
Crafters can break them down further or run them through a rock tumbler for a brighter shine, while collectors can pick out the best few for a shelf and share the rest with friends. A bag also makes a generous gift for someone just starting a rock tumbler hobby, since they get plenty to experiment with.
Stones measure roughly 1.25 by 1 by 0.3 inches up to 2.25 by 1.25 by 0.6 inches. Raw apatite can be chalky straight out of the bag, so rinse it a few times before working with it. This is a stock photo; size and color vary from bag to bag.
Apatite is a group of phosphate minerals and defines hardness 5 on the Mohs scale. Its name comes from the Greek word for 'to deceive', because it was so often mistaken for other gems.
Stone Meaning: Blue apatite is traditionally associated with motivation and creativity.
