Amethyst Crystal Cluster with Stalactite and Calcite - 13 In

An amethyst cluster is common enough, but one that carries a stalactite and calcite crystals in the same specimen is a different kind of display piece.

Seeing amethyst points, a stalactite and calcite together lets you read more than one stage of the geode's growth in a single specimen. Calcite adds a second crystal texture against the purple, which gives the eye something new to find on every look. The hand photo shows how large it is: this is a centerpiece for a cabinet, a mantel or an office credenza rather than a shelf filler. It suits a mineral collector who wants a specimen with a story, or anyone furnishing a meditation room who wants one serious amethyst.

About Amethyst Stalactites

Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Stalactites form when mineral rich water drips and deposits layer after layer, and amethyst stalactites grow this way inside geodes in volcanic basalt, well known from mines near Artigas, Uruguay. Calcite often crystallizes later in the same pockets and is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale.

Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
