Curious about cave formations but short on shelf space? This medium calcite stalactite stands tall on a small footprint.
It is tall and fairly slim through the middle, so it stands upright on its cut base and takes up little room. The calcite cluster gives it texture from every side, and the cut base shows where the formation was sliced. Put it on a desk, a windowsill or a narrow mantel, or pair it with a few smaller minerals for a cabinet display. It also makes a thoughtful gift for a friend who hikes or explores caves.
Stalactites form in caves as mineral rich water drips from the ceiling and leaves calcium carbonate behind, layer after layer, so a slice through one shows concentric growth rings. Limestone cave formations grow very slowly, possibly over thousands of years. Calcite is calcium carbonate, only 3 on the Mohs scale, and it scratches easily.
Stone Meaning: Calcite is traditionally associated with clarity and balance.
