Septarian is often called dragon stone, and this sphere shows why: yellow calcite and brown lines cross gray stone in a snakeskin pattern.

Polishing brings every vein into clear focus, so it is a sphere you will keep turning in your hand. At about 3.25 inches, it sits comfortably on a desk, a bookshelf or an altar, and its earthy colors suit rustic, Southwestern and modern rooms. It is a fun conversation piece and a distinctive gift for a rock hound, a dragon lover or a collector who wants something with texture. This is the exact sphere shown.

The sphere is about 3.25 by 3.25 by 3.25 inches. The acrylic stand in the photos is for display only.

About Septarian

Septarian is a concretion: a nodule of mudstone that cracked as it formed, with the cracks later filled by minerals. The yellow parts are calcite and the brown lines are aragonite, while the gray is chalcedony or limestone. The name comes from the Latin septum, for partition.

Stone Meaning: Septarian is traditionally associated with grounding and communication.

Add a Sphere Stand

A stand keeps a sphere from rolling and lifts it into view, so it looks finished on a shelf, desk or altar. Pick one from our crystal sphere stands and holders, with carved wood, brass, metal and clear acrylic styles. Check the stand size against the sphere diameter for a secure fit.
