Trolleite had no name in the market when we first came across it in Brazil, and this dark blue moon shows why we brought it home anyway.
The stone was new to us back then; the advice at the time was not to buy any until we knew what it was, but holding a piece settled it. This moon is cut from the darker blue material, a mix of quartz with lazulite and scorzalite, and it sits comfortably in your hand, as the photos show. It suits a collector who wants something beyond the usual blue stones, or anyone who likes a moon shape on a nightstand or altar.
About Trolleite
Trolleite is an aluminum phosphate mineral, first described in 1868 from the Vastana mine in Skane, Sweden, and named after the Swedish chemist Hans Gabriel Trolle-Wachtmeister. It usually forms with other phosphates such as lazulite, a blue magnesium iron aluminum phosphate that is often confused with lapis lazuli and azurite, and Brazil is one of lazulite's known sources. Trolleite is a different mineral from troilite, an iron sulfide best known from meteorites.
Stone Meaning: Trolleite is traditionally associated with emotional balance and inner peace.
