Picture six thin windows into the inside of a geode, each one set upright on its own wooden stand.
Being thin, each slice shows its pattern on both faces. The markings and colors differ from slice to slice. Slice 4 is the largest and slice 3 the smallest, while 1, 2, 5 and 6 sit in between with rounder or longer outlines. They are small enough to line up along a windowsill or tuck onto a crowded bookshelf. Buy one for a February birthday or pick two or three and group them. Choose your slice from the photos.
Amethyst stalactites form inside geodes in volcanic basalt, as mineral rich water drips and deposits layer after layer of silica. Slicing one across reveals concentric bands of chalcedony and amethyst around the core, much as a cut log shows its growth rings. The mines near Artigas, Uruguay are well known for them.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
