Smoky quartz is the brown to gray cousin of clear quartz, and this naturally formed point still carries the marks of how it grew.
Its faces are not glassy smooth. Natural indents and growth marks run across the crystal, giving it a lived in personality you do not get from a machine polished tower. The base has been cut flat, so it stands on any shelf, desk or windowsill without a holder. Put it near a lamp and the brown tones turn warm and honey colored. It is an easy add for a collection in progress, a thoughtful gift for a nature lover, or a quiet desk stone for someone who prefers earth tones to bright color.
Smoky quartz gets its brown to gray color when natural radiation activates color centers around trace aluminum in the quartz. It is the national gemstone of Scotland, where it is called cairngorm, and Brazil supplies most commercial smoky quartz.
Stone Meaning: Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding and calm.
