Selenite has a soft, silky glow, and polishing it into a sphere shows that off beautifully. As light moves across the surface, the fine fibers inside shimmer like moonlight on water.
These spheres range from about 30 to 50 millimeters across, easy to hold and just right for a desk, bedside table or altar. Buy one, or choose 5 or 10 for crystal grids, party favors or gift sets. Keep selenite dry; it is a soft, water-sensitive mineral and looks best when dusted with a dry cloth.
Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum, hydrous calcium sulfate. The silky, fibrous kind often sold as selenite is known to mineralogists as satin spar. It rates just 2 on the Mohs scale, so it scratches easily and should be kept away from water.
Stone Meaning: Selenite is traditionally associated with clarity and calm.
A stand keeps a sphere from rolling and lifts it into view, so it looks finished on a shelf, desk or altar. Pick one from our crystal sphere stands and holders, with carved wood, brass, metal and clear acrylic styles. Check the stand size against the sphere diameter for a secure fit.
Can selenite get wet? No. Selenite is a form of gypsum and can dull or dissolve with water, so keep it dry.
Do spheres need a stand? A small ring or stand keeps a sphere from rolling; stands are sold separately.
