Rutilated Smoky Quartz Rough Crystal - One of a Kind, 2.25 In

Rutile needles suspended inside smoky quartz are the whole story with this rough stone.

Rutile grew first, as fine needles, and the quartz formed around them and sealed them in, so in rutilated quartz the inclusions are the point rather than a flaw. This piece is left rough with a natural outside, and rough quartz usually shows its inclusions best when you hold it up to a window or a lamp. At a little over 2 inches it sits easily in your palm, fits a pocket or a small display, and makes a good first rutilated specimen for someone starting a mineral collection. One practical note: any stand seen in the photos is not included. You receive the exact stone shown.

Measurements are about 2 by 2.25 by 1.5 inches, and a ruler photo gives a sense of scale.

About Rutilated Smoky Quartz

Rutilated quartz is quartz that holds needle shaped inclusions of rutile, which usually look golden but can also be silver, red or black. The inclusions are the reason people seek it out, not a flaw. Smoky quartz gets its brown to gray color when natural radiation activates color centers around trace aluminum in the crystal.

Stone Meaning: Rutilated quartz is traditionally associated with clarity and intention.
