Slice through a stalactite and you find a pattern like a tiny tree trunk: rings of mineral growth wrapped around a central channel. This small white to grey stalactite slice was hand cut in our Brazil warehouse to show that cross section.

Pieces range from about 0.7 to 2.12 inches and weigh 8 to 9 grams, so they suit pendants, rings, wire-wrapped charms and even decorative furniture knobs. We select a stone at random; if you have a size or shape preference, let us know and we will try to match it.

How Stalactites Form

Stalactites grow as mineral-rich water drips from a cave ceiling or cavity and leaves a thin layer behind with each drop. Over time those layers build up, and slicing across one reveals concentric growth rings, much like the rings of a tree.
