According to folklore and legend the Shiva Lingum (lingam, lingham) represents the Lord Shiva. The Shiva Lingam is a stone found in the Narmada River in Western India. This is considered one of India's most holy sites. The stones are gathered and hand polished so they are a smooth round oval/rounded shape. This shape has a specific meaning in folklore of Hindu tradition, it is symbollic of the phallus of Hindu God Shiva. It also represents the cosmic egg, out of which all creation is believed to have emerged. They believe this stone represents both the male and the female, all in one sacred shape.
