Orthoceras were straight shelled sea creatures related to the modern nautilus, and their fossils show up as long cone shapes in the stone.
This triangle box is carved from that fossil stone, with a lid that lifts off to reveal a storage space for rings, earrings, cash or small keepsakes. The fossil shapes in the stone make it a natural fit on a dresser, a nightstand or an office desk, and it is a thoughtful pick for a fossil lover, a geology fan or a groomsman gift. Each box is cut from a different block of stone, so the fossil pattern on yours will differ a little from the one in the photos.
Orthoceras was an extinct nautiloid cephalopod with a long, straight shell; the name means straight horn. The true genus lived in the Ordovician period, and many decorative straight shelled fossils are related orthoceratoids. Nautiloids are an ancient lineage that includes the modern nautilus.
Stone Meaning: Orthoceras is traditionally associated with confidence and positivity.
