Ocean jasper collectors sort material by vein, and this tall slab comes from the first vein at Marovato, mined between 1999 and 2006.
This slab is long and narrow, close to twice as long as it is wide, so on its stand it reads tall and slim, a good fit for a narrow shelf or the corner of a desk. Each of the eight Marovato veins gives slightly different stone, and first vein pieces lean toward green, pink and white. The photos show the front, the back on the stand, the thin edge and the slab in hand, so you can judge it from every side before you buy. The metal stand comes with it. For someone building an ocean jasper collection, it pairs well with rounder pieces and adds a first vein example to the shelf.
Ocean jasper is silica, a mix of microcrystalline agate and jasper with crystalline quartz, known for round orbs or eyes in many colors. It comes from a single coastal location on the Ambolobozo Peninsula of northern Madagascar, reached by boat and worked at low tide, and druzy and botryoidal formations are common.
Stone Meaning: Ocean jasper is traditionally associated with joy and nurturing.
