About Mahogany Obsidian

Obsidian is natural volcanic glass that forms when lava cools too quickly for crystals to grow. Mahogany obsidian mixes black glass with reddish brown glass, the brown coming from iron rich impurities, and like all obsidian it breaks with a smooth, curved conchoidal fracture.
