Serious quartz collectors tend to want two things in one specimen, skeletal growth and good inclusions, and this raw piece has both.

At about 6 by 5 by 3 inches, it is a broad, raw elestial smokey quartz with gold and black rutile, and the alligator texture of the faces gives light plenty of edges to play across. Left raw rather than polished, it shows the crystal as it grew. Place it where it can be seen from several sides: a coffee table, a mantel or a lit shelf. For a quartz collector, a retirement or a new office, it is a substantial gift. And if you are wondering about the dark and golden lines, the rutile needles are inclusions of another mineral that grew within the quartz, not cracks. This is the exact specimen shown.

It measures roughly 6 by 5 by 3 inches. Use the ruler photo to judge the size.

About Elestial Quartz and Black Rutile

Elestial is a market name for skeletal quartz, which grows in unusually saturated conditions when crystal edges grow faster than the faces, leaving recessed, layered faces. Rutile is titanium dioxide that commonly forms needle like crystals, and groups of these needles are often found penetrating quartz. Rutile is usually golden to reddish brown, and it turns black when rich in niobium and tantalum.

Stone Meaning: Rutilated smoky quartz is traditionally associated with clarity and grounding.
