Each geode half opens to a sparkling crystal center, dyed in a bright color. They measure about 1.5 to 2 inches by 2 to 3.25 inches, a size that fits in the palm.
Choose pink, purple, blue or teal, or a mixed set. Display them on a shelf or desk, use them as party favors, or break them into smaller pieces for wire wrapped pendants. They are a fun, affordable way to introduce kids to geodes.
The bright colors are dyed. Each geode is natural, so size, shape and crystal pattern vary, and no two are the same; the hand photo shows the scale.
A geode is a hollow, roughly round rock lined with crystals or mineral bands. It forms as mineral-rich groundwater slowly deposits layers inside a cavity over a very long time. Interiors are usually agate, chalcedony or quartz, and many commercial geodes come from Brazil, Uruguay, Namibia and Mexico. Bright electric blue or pink geodes are artificially dyed.
