Grape Agate Botryoidal Chalcedony Cluster - One of a Kind, 5.5 In

Grape agate gets its name honestly: the purple chalcedony grows in rounded bunches that resemble a cluster of tiny grapes.

Mineral collectors know it as botryoidal purple chalcedony, and it is usually purple, sometimes with blue, white, green or gray grains mixed in. This specimen is a good hand size piece at 5.5 inches, large enough to show the rounded spheres clearly in a cabinet or on a shelf. It works well under a small lamp, which brings out the soft luster on each bubble. For someone starting a mineral collection, or someone who already has quartz and amethyst and wants a different texture, this cluster fills that gap. Grape agate is a fairly recent find in the mineral world, mined in Sulawesi, Indonesia, though the source of this particular piece is not recorded. You receive the exact grape agate cluster shown.

The cluster is about 5.5 by 3.5 by 2 inches. Look for the ruler photo for scale.

About Grape Agate

Grape agate is botryoidal chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz colored purple by trace iron. Botryoidal comes from the Greek botrys, a bunch of grapes. Despite the trade name it is not true agate, since it lacks agate banding, and it comes from the Batu Manakarra district of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

Stone Meaning: Grape agate is traditionally associated with calm and self assurance.
