Kyanite grows in long, flat blades, and this rough formation shows them in blue.
Nothing here has been cut or polished. The bladed crystals grow together in a solid, chunky cluster, and the close up photo shows the blue running along the blades. Because it is as deep as it is wide, it sits steadily on a shelf or desk and looks good from more than one side. A raw kyanite specimen like this suits mineral collectors, geology fans and anyone who prefers rough stone to polished shapes. Blue tones also pair well with coastal or minimal decor.
Kyanite is an aluminum silicate, most often blue but also green, black or clear. It forms in metamorphic rocks such as mica schist and gneiss under high pressure, and its name shares a root with the color cyan, from the Greek kyanos, dark blue. Its hardness changes with direction, softer along the blade than across it.
Stone Meaning: Kyanite is traditionally associated with alignment and communication.
