Alligator Smoky Quartz Cluster from Brazil - Large Elestial Formation, 9 In

Jacare, the Portuguese word for alligator, is the trade name for this smoky quartz, after the ridged, scaly texture of its faces.

This large natural formation from Brazil shows that texture across its surface, with stepped, layered faces in place of the smooth glassy sides of an ordinary point. It is a big, weighty specimen that can hold a console table or a wide bookshelf by itself, and its brown tones sit well with wood, leather and stone. Quartz collectors will appreciate it as a strong example of skeletal growth, and it is a striking gift for someone who prefers raw, natural pieces to polished ones. It also photographs well against a plain backdrop for styling work.

About Alligator Quartz

The same material is also sold as smoky elestial or skeletal quartz. Skeletal quartz forms in unusually saturated conditions, when crystal edges grow faster than the faces, leaving recessed, ribbed faces. Smoky quartz takes its brown color from natural radiation acting on trace aluminum, and Brazil supplies most commercial smoky quartz.

Stone Meaning: Smoky quartz is traditionally associated with grounding and calm.
