Collectors who prefer crystals still attached to their host rock should take a close look at this vanadinite on barite matrix.
The vanadinite is concentrated along the top and the front, and the thin, flat profile means it can lean on a riser or a plate stand with the crystal side facing out. Its footprint is about that of a deck of cards, so it slips into a crowded shelf or a specimen drawer without fuss. Barite makes up most of the main face and gives the piece its heft. Choose it as a gift for a mineral club friend, or add it to your own collection.
Vanadinite is a lead chlorovanadate and an ore of vanadium. It forms as a secondary mineral in the oxidized zone of lead deposits, especially in arid climates, and its crystals are usually red to orange red with a resinous to sub-adamantine luster. Barite, a dense barium sulfate, is one of the minerals it grows with, and Mibladen in Morocco is a well known source of vanadinite on barite.
Stone Meaning: Vanadinite is traditionally associated with motivation and creativity.
