The La Morita mine in Chihuahua has produced yellow wulfenite with mimetite, and this specimen shows both side by side.
The wulfenite forms thin, tabular crystals on natural matrix, and the mimetite grows in rounded, botryoidal clusters, so you get two very different crystal habits in one piece. The yellow orange plates and bright yellow mimetite make a warm contrast. At about 3.5 inches square and 290 grams, it fits a display case, a collector's shelf or a lit cabinet, where the color shows best. It makes a memorable gift for an experienced mineral collector. This is the exact specimen shown.
The specimen is about 3.5 by 3.5 by 1 inches and weighs about 0.29 kilograms.
Wulfenite is lead molybdate, usually orange yellow to yellow, forming thin tabular or pyramidal crystals; it is soft, about 3 on the Mohs scale. Mimetite is lead arsenate chloride, often yellow to orange. Both form in the oxidized zones of lead deposits, and the La Morita Mine in Chihuahua has produced yellow wulfenite with botryoidal mimetite on matrix.
Stone Meaning: Wulfenite is traditionally associated with creativity and inspiration.
