Raw aquamarine in its host rock shows a side of the March birthstone that faceted gems never do.
Instead of a cut stone in a ring, you see aquamarine the way it formed, still set in natural matrix with its rough surface intact. The front, back and side views let you check the stone all the way around, and the close up shows the detail. At about 6.5 inches long it is a hefty, hand filling specimen for a bookshelf, a desk or a collector's cabinet, and the rough texture contrasts nicely with polished pieces nearby. It suits a March birthday, a mineral collector or anyone who likes stones in their natural state. The stone in the photos is the one you will receive.
It measures about 6.5 by 5 by 3.5 inches; the ruler photo shows it against a scale.
Aquamarine is blue to greenish blue beryl that owes its color to iron, and it is the birthstone for March. Most of it grows in granite pegmatites alongside quartz, feldspar and mica, often as six sided prisms with flat ends. Brazil has supplied much of the world's gem aquamarine for over 100 years.
Stone Meaning: Aquamarine is traditionally associated with calm and courage.
