Almost industrial in its look, this pyrolusite has silver manganese oxide embedded in a broad piece of host rock.
It rests flat, which puts the silver face on show from above on a coffee table, a low shelf or a glass topped cabinet. Daylight brings out the shine best, and the contrast between the metallic ore and the plain rock around it is what makes it read as a true mineral specimen rather than a decor stone. Mid sized and solid in the hand, it suits a collector building a suite of ore minerals or a desk where a rough stone feels more interesting than a polished one. For a gift, pair it with a hand lens so the recipient can study the texture up close.
Pyrolusite is mostly manganese dioxide, MnO2, and the main ore of manganese. It is black to light gray, sometimes bluish, and its hardness ranges from 6 to 6.5 in crystals down to about 2 in massive form.
Stone Meaning: Pyrolusite is traditionally associated with transformation and resilience.
