Gray instead of purple, this amethyst cathedral stands out for exactly that reason.
Its cool gray tones are dusted with calcite druzy, a frosting of small crystals that adds sparkle and a softer texture across the cave. The muted palette fits rooms where a bright purple would fight with the decor: concrete, oak, black steel and neutral linen all suit it. It has a broad footprint that sits solidly on a console or a low plinth. A strong choice for a designer, an architect's office or a collector who already owns the classic purple.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving calcite crystals perched on the amethyst points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
