Hematoid quartz owes its deep red and brown color to iron minerals packed inside the crystal.
Also sold as fire quartz or harlequin quartz, it is quartz with heavy concentrations of hematite or limonite, and this polished point shows those red and brown tones with gray and black inclusions throughout. At about 5.75 inches tall and more than 3 inches wide, it is a stout, solid point with real presence on a desk, a bookshelf or an office windowsill. Earthy reds are easy to place with wood, leather and warm neutral decor. It makes a thoughtful gift for a friend who loves warm colors, a new office or anyone building a quartz collection. This is the exact point shown.
The point is about 5.75 by 3.125 by 2.625 inches. The in hand photo shows its scale.
Hematoid quartz, also called harlequin or fire quartz, is quartz with heavy concentrations of hematite or limonite. These iron minerals create reddish orange streaks along fractures inside the crystal. It is often heat treated in the trade to deepen its color.
