Garnet crystals sit in a glittering matrix of mica schist in this raw specimen, a natural pairing of deep color and shimmering rock.
Choose 200 to 400 grams, 400 to 600 grams or 600 to 800 grams; heavier specimens are larger. Display it on a shelf or desk, add it to a mineral collection, or give it as a January birthday gift.
Schist splits into thin flakes along its layers, so handle it gently, avoid knocking it, and dust it with a soft brush rather than washing it. Each specimen varies in size and in the number and size of garnets.
Garnet is a group of silicate minerals, usually red, rated 6.5 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale and the birthstone for January. Schist is a metamorphic rock formed during mountain building; its aligned mica gives it shimmer, and it often holds larger garnet crystals.
Stone Meaning: Garnet is traditionally associated with strength and commitment.
