Three small polished sand dollar fossils come as a set, each with a flat base so it sits neatly on a shelf or in a display box.
They are sold as is: all three have minor chips, but every piece is intact and the flaws are hard to notice at a glance; the side view photo shows them up close. As a set they suit a beach themed shelf, a shadow box or a first fossil collection, and they are handy for craft projects such as framed displays. Give them to a beachcomber or an ocean lover who would enjoy a real fossil more than a souvenir shell.
Sand dollars are flattened sea urchins, echinoderms in the order Clypeasteroida with five fold symmetry and an internal skeleton of calcite plates. They first appeared in the Paleocene, about 60 million years ago, and had spread to every ocean by the middle Eocene. The five part, flower shaped pattern on the top side is the most recognizable feature of a fossil sand dollar.
