Deep blue and polished smooth, sodalite makes a tower that looks right on a desk all year.
This one stands just under eight inches tall and sits comfortably in the hand, as the photos show, so it moves easily from a home office to a bedside table. The high polish brings out the depth of the blue, and any lighter markings are part of the natural stone. It suits writers, teachers and anyone who likes a calm, cool color in their workspace, and it makes a sensible gift for a new job or a graduation.
Sodalite is a royal blue mineral named for its sodium content, first found in 1811 in Greenland. It became an ornamental stone after large deposits were discovered in Ontario, Canada, in 1891, including the Princess mine near Bancroft. It seldom contains the gold pyrite flecks typical of lapis lazuli, which is one way to tell the two apart, and most sodalite fluoresces orange under ultraviolet light.
Stone Meaning: Sodalite is traditionally associated with logic and truth.
