Bubbly, lavender and shimmering: that is botryoidal lepidolite, one of the more unusual forms that lithium mica can take.
The rounded, grape cluster texture covers the surface, and the mica flakes catch the light so the lavender color shimmers as you move around it. At about 5.5 by 5 inches, it is broad enough to be the centerpiece of a shelf or a mineral display. It is raw and natural, with no polish, which keeps the bubble texture crisp. Lepidolite is rich in lithium, the same element used in rechargeable batteries, a fun fact for a science lover. It makes a memorable gift for a collector or anyone who loves purple. This is the exact specimen shown.
The specimen is about 5.5 by 5 by 3 inches. Look at the ruler photo for scale.
Lepidolite is a lithium bearing mica, the most abundant lithium mineral on Earth, and its lilac to pink purple color comes from trace manganese. Botryoidal describes rounded masses in the form of a bunch of grapes, from the Greek botrys. Like other micas, lepidolite is soft, about 2.5 to 3 on the Mohs scale, and its flakes give it a satiny shine.
Stone Meaning: Lepidolite is traditionally associated with calm and transition.
