Kyanite takes its name from the same Greek root as the color cyan, kyanos, meaning dark blue. This large rough cluster pairs blue kyanite with tourmaline and mica in one natural, unpolished chunk.
At about 12 inches long it is a big specimen, the size that holds its own on a mantel, a wide desk or a cabinet shelf instead of getting lost among smaller stones. The mineral mix is the draw. Kyanite forms in mica schist, gneiss and other metamorphic rocks made under high pressure, so seeing it alongside mica fits its geological story, and the tourmaline adds a third mineral to point out to anyone who asks. It suits a mineral collector, a geology fan, or someone who meditates and wants a larger stone for a dedicated space. Rough means nothing has been cut or polished; the edges and texture are just as the stone came out of the ground. You get this exact kyanite cluster.
It runs about 12 by 4.75 by 5 inches, and the front, back, side and close up photos show it from every angle.
Kyanite is an aluminum silicate, Al2SiO5, that forms long bladed crystals, most often blue. It occurs in mica schist, gneiss and other metamorphic rocks formed at high pressure, and occasionally in pegmatites. Its hardness changes with direction, softer along the blade than across it, and industry uses it in porcelain and other heat resistant ceramics.
Stone Meaning: Kyanite is traditionally associated with communication and alignment.
