Glassy blue barite blades and shiny metallic galena make a combination that stops collectors in their tracks. These specimens come from Morocco, and one even has a small hollow geode.
The contrast of soft blue and silvery gray is striking under a spotlight or in a mineral cabinet. It is a standout gift for a serious collector, a geology graduate or anyone who appreciates two contrasting minerals in one piece.
Each lettered option is pictured on its own, so the piece you see is the piece you receive. Specimen A is about 3.75 by 2.25 by 2.9 inches and 230 grams; B about 5.25 by 4 by 2.6 inches and 625 grams; C about 6 by 3.6 by 4.5 inches and 1.1 kilograms.
Barite is barium sulfate, unusually heavy for a nonmetallic mineral, with a name from the Greek for heavy. It is soft, at 2.5 to 3.5. Galena is lead sulfide, the main ore of lead, forming silvery cubic crystals with a hardness of about 2.5.
Stone Meaning: Blue barite is traditionally associated with insight and communication.
