Glassy blue barite meets metallic gray galena on a Moroccan matrix, and the contrast is striking.
Tabular barite crystals and prismatic shards rise from the matrix, with galena dispersed throughout, and the mix of glassy and metallic luster gives it a strong shine under a lamp. At about 6 inches long and just over a kilogram, it is a substantial cabinet specimen for a display case, a study or a collector's shelf; the in hand photo shows the scale. Both minerals are heavy for their size, so it feels solid when you lift it. It makes a memorable gift for an experienced mineral collector or a geology enthusiast. This is the exact specimen shown.
The specimen is about 6 by 3.5 by 3.75 inches tall and weighs about 1.155 kilograms (2 lb 8.6 oz).
Barite is barium sulfate, often forming bladed or tabular crystals, and it is soft, about 2.5 to 3.5 on the Mohs scale. Galena is lead sulfide, the primary ore of lead, known for cubic crystals, a bright silver luster that dulls to gray, and a very high density.
Stone Meaning: Barite is traditionally associated with insight and intuition.
