Love strong color in a mineral? This large raw azurite with malachite has plenty of it.
Bright blue azurite crystals share the surface with green malachite formations, so the two colors play off each other in every photo. It is a big, weighty piece that reads well from across a room on a bookcase or a desk in a study. Raw azurite like this appeals to mineral collectors and to anyone drawn to deep blue in their decor.
Azurite is a deep blue copper carbonate, and its name traces to the ancient Persian word lazhward, for blue. It is less stable in open air than malachite, the green copper carbonate, which is why the two so often occur together and why azurite is slowly replaced by malachite over time. Azurite was ground into blue pigment in ancient Egypt and Greece and was a major source of blue in medieval Europe.
Stone Meaning: Azurite with malachite is traditionally associated with insight and creativity.
