Metallic mineral collectors will recognize arsenopyrite on quartz as a classic pairing. This specimen from Morocco shows silvery, prismatic arsenopyrite crystals set on a quartz matrix.
The arsenopyrite has a bright metallic luster that catches light from different angles, and the quartz underneath gives it contrast and a natural base. At about 5.1 by 4.5 inches and 3.5 inches tall, it is a solid display size for a cabinet, a bookshelf or a desk under a small spotlight, and a specimen stand will lift it into view if you want one. The front, back and side photos show the crystal arrangement from every angle. It makes a strong gift for a mineral collector, a geologist or anyone who appreciates metallic minerals. This is the exact specimen shown.
The specimen is about 5.125 by 4.5 by 3.5 inches tall and weighs about 1.5 kilograms (3 lbs 5 oz). Look at the ruler photo for scale.
Arsenopyrite is an iron arsenic sulfide with a steel gray to silver white metallic luster, and it usually forms striated, prismatic crystals. At about 46 percent arsenic, it is a principal ore of arsenic. When struck it gives off a garlic odor, one of the features mineralogists use to identify it.
Stone Meaning: Arsenopyrite is traditionally associated with confidence and courage.
