Apatite takes its name from the Greek word for 'to deceive', because it was so often mistaken for other gems.
Here it appears with jasper, polished together into points that show blue, brown and white color variations side by side. The jasper is sold as lion's eye jasper, a trade name; jasper itself is an opaque, fine grained silica whose browns come from iron. The five points run roughly 4.75 to 5.625 inches tall. A and B are the shorter pair, C and D are about 5.5 inches, and E is the tallest at about 5.625 inches. On a shelf, a windowsill or a desk they bring earthy color with a flash of blue, and they suit a collector or anyone drawn to blue stones. Apatite is softer than the jasper around it, so treat the blue areas as display surfaces rather than worry stones. You choose the exact piece from the photos.
The points are labeled by letter in group photos, so you can match each letter to its point. Heights run from about 4.75 inches (A) to about 5.625 inches (E); full sizes for all five are listed below.
Apatite is a group of phosphate minerals and defines hardness 5 on the Mohs scale, and gem blue apatite comes from Brazil, Madagascar and other localities. Jasper is an opaque, fine grained variety of silica whose red and brown tones come from iron, and it takes a good polish.
Stone Meaning: Apatite is traditionally associated with motivation and creativity.
