Picture a slim purple geode on the end of a bookshelf, catching the afternoon light.
This cathedral is on the narrower side, so it slips into tight spots: between books, beside a lamp, on a windowsill. It has grape purple color and chunky crystals lining a deep cave. The cut base means it stands without a holder. As a first cathedral it is easy to place and easy to live with, and it is a welcome gift for anyone settling into a new apartment.
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz, colored by trace iron exposed to natural radiation. In Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, it forms inside large geodes in volcanic rock, and that region together with neighboring Artigas, Uruguay is one of the largest amethyst producers in the world. A cathedral is a tall section of one of those geodes, cut so it stands with the crystal lined hollow facing out.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
