Not every amethyst needs to be dark; this light purple cluster shares space with mica and calcite for a softer, sparkling look.
The mica adds a pearly to metallic shine, while calcite sits among the amethyst crystals, so there is more than one mineral to study up close. At about 7.25 by 6 inches across and just over 4 inches tall, it is broad enough to hold its own on a mantel, a sideboard or a wide bookshelf. Front, back and close up photos show the mix of minerals, and the in hand photo shows the scale. It suits a collector who likes multi mineral specimens, a February birthday, or anyone who finds deep purple too heavy for their space. This is the exact amethyst cluster pictured.
Measurements are about 7.25 by 6 by 4.125 inches tall.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Micas are sheet silicate minerals that split into thin, flexible sheets with a pearly to metallic luster, and calcite is calcium carbonate, much softer than quartz at 3 on the Mohs scale.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
