Jewelry makers, these two abalone shell cabochons are ready for your next pair of earrings or matching pendants.
Each square has been cut and shaped from abalone shell into a mosaic pattern on both sides, so the shimmering nacre shows blues, greens, pinks and pearly tones whichever side faces out. At under an inch square and a quarter inch thick, they are petite and light, which keeps finished earrings or pendants comfortable to wear. Because you get both, they are a natural matched set for earrings, cufflinks or a pair of rings, and they also make a small, thoughtful gift for a crafter or shell collector. These are the exact two cabochons shown.
Each cabochon is about 0.875 by 0.875 by 0.25 inches. Look at the ruler photo for scale.
About Abalone Shell
Abalone shells have a thick inner layer of nacre, also called mother of pearl, the same material pearls are made of. Nacre is built from microscopic aragonite platelets, and its iridescence comes from those platelets interfering with light. Depending on the species, the colors range from silvery white and pink to deep blue, green and purple.
