Sodalite was named for the sodium in its chemistry, and its royal blue is easy to recognize once you know it.
This tall, slim point was hand cut and polished by a member of our team. The polish draws out the markings inside the stone, and the flat cut base keeps it standing steady on a shelf, a desk or a bedside table. Its height reads well from across a room, especially in natural light, while the slender profile fits narrow spaces. It is a thoughtful gift for a writer, a geology fan, or anyone who loves blue stones.
Sodalite is a royal blue mineral, commonly veined with white, named for the sodium in its chemistry. It was first described from Greenland in 1811 and became an ornamental stone after large deposits were found in Ontario, Canada, in 1891. Unlike lapis lazuli it seldom contains pyrite, and its blue sits closer to royal blue than ultramarine.
Stone Meaning: Sodalite is traditionally associated with clear thinking and communication.
