Two minerals share this cluster: purple amethyst points with white calcite formations grown over them.
The contrast is what sets it apart. The white calcite stands out against the purple, and the mix of textures, glassy points next to chalky white formations, shows two stages of crystal growth in one piece. It is a large cluster that fills a shelf spot on its own, and it suits a collector who already owns plain amethyst and wants something with more going on. A housewarming or a new home office is a good occasion for it. The photo in hand shows the size.
Amethyst is purple quartz colored by trace iron and natural radiation. Calcite, calcium carbonate, often crystallizes later in the same geode pockets, leaving calcite crystals perched on the purple points. Calcite is much softer than quartz, 3 on the Mohs scale, so those areas deserve gentler handling.
Stone Meaning: Amethyst is traditionally associated with calm and balance.
