Septarian has a pattern you recognize instantly: angular blocks of stone outlined by seams of calcite.

This polished septarian platter comes from Utah and shows that cracked, mapped pattern across its face. It is sold as is because a large piece of it is missing, and one of the photos is a close up of that chip so you can judge the edge before you order. If you want the septarian pattern for a small display, a crystal tray or a coffee table and do not mind an irregular outline, it is an easy piece to enjoy. You get this exact platter.

Size is about 5 by 4 by 0.75 inches, with a weight of about 325 grams. Check the ruler photo to see how it sits in the hand.

About Septarian

Septarian is a concretion: a nodule of carbonate rich mudstone that cracked as it formed, leaving angular blocks separated by mineral filled seams. The filling is usually calcite, often yellow to brown, and the name comes from the Latin septum, meaning partition. Despite the nickname dragon stone and a passing likeness to dinosaur eggs, these nodules are geological formations, not fossils.

Stone Meaning: Septarian is traditionally associated with patience and communication.
