Walk past this labradorite butterfly and its color changes.
The wings flash blue, green or yellow when light meets them at the right angle. The seven options differ more in outline than in style. D is the tallest and slimmest, while G is the smallest of the group and fits a windowsill or nightstand. F is the broadest. C is the second tallest, and E shares the most front to back depth with F, so it looks solid from the side. A and B sit in the middle, balanced and compact. Choose the one whose shape and flash you like best. A butterfly carving makes a sweet gift for a gardener, someone marking a new chapter, or a friend who already loves labradorite.
Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar. Its flashes of color, called labradorescence, come from light reflecting off internal twinning surfaces, so the effect appears and disappears as the stone turns. It was described from Labrador, Canada, in 1770, and it is also found in Finland and Madagascar.
Stone Meaning: Labradorite is traditionally associated with intuition and transformation.
