About Orthoceras

Orthoceras, whose name means straight horn, was an extinct nautiloid cephalopod with a long, straight shell. Nautiloids are an ancient lineage related to the modern nautilus. Many decorative Moroccan fossils sold as orthoceras are closely related straight-shelled orthoceratoids, polished to show the shells in dark stone.
