This hamsa hand is carved from iridescent mother of pearl and drilled from top to bottom, ready to string. It measures about 19 by 14 millimeters and 2 millimeters thick.

Thread it onto a bracelet, use it as a focal bead on a necklace, or add it to earrings. The hamsa is a palm shaped amulet traditionally used against the evil eye across North Africa and the Middle East, in Jewish, Christian and Muslim communities. It is also called the Hand of Fatima or Hand of Miriam, and many versions show an eye in the palm.

Mother of pearl is soft and sensitive to acids, so keep it away from perfume, lotion and harsh cleaners. Each bead varies slightly in shimmer.

About Mother of Pearl

Mother of pearl, or nacre, is the iridescent inner shell layer made by some mollusks, the same material that forms pearls. It is built from microscopic aragonite platelets, and its rainbow shimmer comes from those thin layers interfering with light.

Stone Meaning: The hamsa is traditionally associated with protection and blessings.
