Left in their rough natural form, these black tourmaline beads keep their striated texture, giving jewelry an earthy, rugged edge.
String a rugged bracelet or necklace, mix them with gold or silver spacers, or use a few as accents in men's jewelry. Their black color pairs with nearly any other stone.
The strand is about 15 inches long with about 31 to 36 beads. Beads range from about 9 by 12 to 13 by 16 millimeters, and shape varies.
Schorl, the black variety, is the most common kind of tourmaline. It grows as long prismatic crystals with heavy vertical striations and has a hardness of about 7 to 7.5.
