Rich purple and polished to a shine, this agate geode bookend pair turns a bookshelf into a display. Both halves come from one rough Brazilian geode, so the banding and crystal pockets mirror each other when the pair faces out.

At 6 to 9 pounds together, they have the weight to hold a row of paperbacks or a few hardcovers upright. The back of each bookend keeps its natural, unpolished rind, which gives a raw contrast to the glossy purple face. They also look great on a mantel or console with no books at all.

About Agate Geode Bookends

Agate is a translucent form of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands form as silica-rich groundwater deposits layer after layer inside a rock cavity, and some of those cavities become crystal-lined geodes. At Mohs 7, agate is hard enough to polish to a glassy face. Because agate is slightly porous, it takes dye well, which is how the vivid colored bookends in the trade are made.
