An agate table is furniture and mineral specimen at the same time, and this one was hand cut and polished in Brazil.
The top is a polished slab of natural agate, and the close up photos show the pattern across its surface. Around the edge, the sides are left raw and natural, so the natural edge contrasts with the polished face. At about 27.75 inches tall it sits at side table height, beside a sofa, next to a reading chair or in an entry. Since no two agate slabs grow alike, the pattern on this top cannot be repeated anywhere else. For anyone who has outgrown shelf sized pieces, a table puts the stone at the center of a room. This exact agate table is the one you receive.
The table is about 20.825 inches long, 15.75 inches wide and 27.75 inches tall. A ruler photo is included for scale.
Agate is a banded, translucent form of microcrystalline quartz. Its bands build up as silica is deposited in layers inside rock cavities by groundwater of changing composition. It sits at 7 on the hardness scale and takes a high polish, which is why it has been worked into carvings, bookends and slabs for thousands of years.
Stone Meaning: Agate is traditionally associated with balance and stability.
