With its wider, flatter shape, this grape agate shows its clusters from the front.
This raw piece is broad and slim rather than chunky, so the grape bunches spread out across its face instead of stacking up. That makes it easy to lean against books, set on a small plate stand or lay flat in a display case. Grape agate is usually purple but can carry blue, white, green or gray grains; the photos show this piece's colors. A fine pick for a collector who wants a different silhouette from the usual round cluster.
Grape agate is botryoidal chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz that grows in rounded clusters of tiny spheres; botryoidal comes from the Greek word for a bunch of grapes. Its purple color comes from trace iron. It is not true agate because it lacks banding, and most of it on the market comes from Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Stone Meaning: Grape agate is traditionally associated with calm and self confidence.
