One look at the rounded orbs covering this freeform explains how grape agate got its name.
Long and tall for its weight, it gives the clusters a broad face to show off. Set it upright on a bookshelf or a mantel and the orbs catch light along their curves. It is hard enough to live with on an open shelf, and the side views in the photos show how deep the clusters run from front to back. Choose it for a purple stone lover, a Valentine's Day surprise, or your own mineral collection.
Grape agate is botryoidal chalcedony, a microcrystalline quartz that grows in rounded clusters of tiny spheres; botryoidal comes from the Greek word for a bunch of grapes. Its purple color comes from trace iron. It is not true agate because it lacks banding, and most of it on the market comes from Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Stone Meaning: Grape agate is traditionally associated with calm and self confidence.
